Canoe Cleaning

Awhile back some folks gave us a canoe. It was made in the early 70s & was quite filthy. We finally got it registered & ate ready to go. Cleaned it this afternoon. Before & after pics. Not too shabby! And a GREAT price!
"I think we all pray to the first cup of the day. It's a silent prayer. Sun while the mind is still foggy and blue. 'O Magic Cup,' it might go, 'carry me above the traffic jam. Keep me civil in the subway. And forgive my employer, as you forgive me. Amen.'"
// Stewart Lee Allen from The Devil's Cup: A History of the World According to Coffee

For Love...

On American Idol one of the kids sang Meatball's "I Would Do Anything For Love" but I still don't know what Meatball won't do when he says "I won't do that."

Anyone?

From the National Youth Ministry Conference

Didn't make it to the National Youth Ministry Conference this year. Even though it was in glamorous Columbus, OH. Word on the street is that next year it's in Chicago. Cheryl...we're taken the fam to your homeland next February.

This is the one from last year that had bits filmed in our student ministry rooms.

Jake needs to quit the youth ministry and go on tour with Weird Al.

Entertainment

I happened to notice the cover of the 2009 Entertainment book that someone ave us that's sitting on our counter as I was grinding the morning coffee.

The slogan is: "Have more. Do more."

It makes me throw up in my mouth a little. Like when President Bush told us all to go out & shop after 9/11 or the terrorists win.

We are working more along the lines of: "Have less. Do more less wasteful, entertainmenty drivel."

Is the coffee ready yet?

The Whatles?

So a previously unheard version of Revolution is making the rounds. It clocks in at just under 11:00 minutes. And it's awesome.

Check it out here.

Francis Chan Quote

"When people make changes in their lives...it carries greater impact than when they merely make impassioned declarations. The world needs Christians who don't tolerate the complacency of their own lives."

Woods by Bon Iver

I found this cat on emusic. This song is awesomely creepy & compelling & fascinating. I can't stop listening to it.

I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind, I'm building a still to slow down the time.

Vonnegut in Hartford

So, I have been talking to the artist who helped Vonnegut get into making prints, who now manages his artwork, and he is going to lend about 30 pieces to us for a show in the gallery at our center February 27th-March 8th. It should get great crowds and I get to introduce Vonnegut to my students.

How cool is that! We sure have a lucky curator who gets to hang it all.

"...there is the kind of Christmas with presents piled high, the gifts of guilty parents as bribes because they have nothing else to give. The wrappings are ripped off and the presents are thrown down and at the end the child says – ‘Is that all?’ Well it seems to me that America now is like that second kind of Christmas. Having too many THINGS they spend their hours and money on the couch searching for a soul. A strange species we are. We can stand anything God and Nature can throw at us save only plenty. If I wanted to destroy a nation, I would give it too much and I would have it on its knees, miserable, greedy and sick." ~John Steinbeck

what are you - some kind of picasser?

so, as we are all much, much, much more interested in supporting artists and surrounding ourselves with original art (as opposed to played-out prints from super-stores) so i thought i would share this website of very cool and affordable artwork in limited editions. dig.
